A Notary, also known as a Notary Public, is very different to a Solicitor, Notaries are appointed by the Court of Faculties of the Archbishop of Canterbury, and their role is to verify legal documents. Notaries do not provide a signature guarantee in the same way as a Medallion Guarantee but many documents do need to be signed in the presence of a Notary including but not limited to a Power of Attorney. We recommend you call us to discuss your requirements, we will then be able to offer assistance and advise if the documents that you need Notarised must be signed in the presence of a Notary.
In order to Notarise a document a Notary Public will generally attach a Notary certificate which is then bound and sealed with ribbon to confirm the document has been notarised. If not attending our Notary’s office, in order to Notarise a document, the document must be sent to us by post, we recommend you send us a scan of the document first so that we may advise you on the exact requirements. Certain documents, such as Companies House documents, need not be sent to us. This can drastically speed up our processing time. If you have any doubt over the level of service and what you need in order for us to arrange a Notary stamp don’t hesitate to call us.
If you are required to sign the document you need Notarised then the document must be signed in the present of the Notary, do not sign the document then send it to us. We will not be able to assist. If you do need a signature, then in order for our notary to assist you, you must bring photographic identification documentation as well as two forms of proof of address which must be dated within the last three months. Contact us for further details, we are able to provide a list of required documentation.
Our Notary Services are provided by a well-established notary in Central London. For urgent Notarisations of documents we can arrange for you to visit the Notary and they will provide a same day Notary service. Notarised documents can also be legalised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, also on the same day, provided the documents that require the Notarial stamp arrive at the Central London location by 2pm.
Notarial Fees do vary and depend on the service level required. Some documents need urgent attention others may need to be legalised by either the Foreign and Commonwealth Office or perhaps an Embassy. As with our Notary, many of the Embassies are based in or around Central London as such we are able to arrange for embassy certification if required.
There are many different types of documents that can be notarised. We recommend all original documentation be sent to us by either Royal Mail Special Delivery or if sending from overseas using a tracked courier service. When we return your fully notarised documents we will also adhere to this policy. We always obtain a tracking reference but we cannot be held responsible if a tracked document goes astray. We do not charge extra for arranging Couriers as such if you wish to arrange a Courier for the return of Notarised documentation then please do not hesitate to let us know.
We will generally scan documents before sending as proof that the process of Notarisation has completed. Unless you have discussed any different arrangements with us directly, such as if you are sending documents directly to our Notary, all documents which require a Notary Stamp, an Apostille, a Translation or Embassy legalisation should be sent to us at Apostille & Legalisation Services Ltd, Suite 3, 9-13 Bocking End, Braintree, Essex, CM7 9AE.
